My Favorite Tavernas in Thassos
Discovering Thassos: Hidden Gems Away from the Crowds
Welcome to Thassos, a Greek island known for its bustling family-friendly atmosphere that is especially popular among Romanian and Bulgarian tourists due to its proximity and budget friendly options.
But did you know that beyond the crowds, Thassos hides some true gems? In this blog post, I'll take you on a journey to discover the quieter side of Thassos, where you can unwind, explore, and indulge in authentic Greek cuisine that is, surprinsigly enough, one of the best I have ever had in all the places I visited in Greece.
Our favorite areas in Thassos are Skala Rachioni, Skala Kalliarchi, Skala Marion. Kinira would also be a good place to find accommodation - there are some very special spots here as well. This is, in my view, the quiet side of the island and this is exactly what we are usually searching for when it comes to having a relaxing vacation by the sea.
When it comes to culinary treats in Thassos, one place that stands out for our family is in Kazaviti, a beautiful taverna nestled in the mountains
While their menu boasts a variety of delightful dishes, their red peppers stuffed with feta cheese and mouthwatering cheese pie truly stole the show for us. This taverna in Kazaviti is renowned for its savory meat dishes, predominantly goat and pork, as well as their delectable pasticcio and moussaka. If you're craving a seafood feast, you may want to explore other options as Kazaviti stays true to its mountain roots.
Once you had your lunch or dinner, take a walk on the narrow streets of Kazaviti: the quiet streets, the lovely old houses, everywhere you look you feel like discovering little gems of architecure and history. Now that you walked off the meal, head to Το Ανηφόρι that is just steps away. This hidden terrace offers a serene setting to enjoy Greek coffee and a variety of coffee specialties, accompanied by delicious sweets. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking view and savor a tranquil afternoon in this hidden gem.
From mountains to beachside taverns, Glyfoneri Tavern is one of our go-to choices when we stay in Skala Rachoni
Glyfoneri Beach, conveniently located just steps away from a charming tavern, is a hidden gem for a perfect seaside getaway. Although it can get busy during peak hours, early risers can make the most of this winning combination. With small kids in tow, you can soak up the morning sun and enjoy an early lunch, ensuring a well-timed afternoon nap. The tavern offers breathtaking views of the sea and a refreshing breeze, creating a truly relaxing dining experience.
Although we usually go to other beaches in this region, I think this is a good options for families with small kids and a schedule that is not so flexible.
Seafront Taverna and Finest Fish Dishes in Thassos:
To Palio Klisma Tavern in Skala Marion
Many years ago, we stumbled upon this charming tavern, and since then, it has held a special place in our hearts. To Palio Klisma Tavern in Skala Marion never fails to impress, and it has become one of our all-time favorites in the area. Beyond the cuisine, what sets this tavern apart is its view. Sitting just a stone's throw away from our table, the sea unfolds before our eyes.
Our children have always enjoyed playing by the water's edge, collecting pebbles as we awaited our meal. Our experience here has always been nothing short of pure relaxation. The combination of stunning views and exceptional food creates a recipe for an unforgettable dining experience.
This would be my top 3 when it comes for food and taverns in this side of Thassos. However, there are many more hidden gems waiting to be discovered, and I will gradually unveil them all in due time. Stay tuned for an exciting culinary journey through Thassos!
So, experience the serene side of Thassos and discover the beauty in life's simple pleasures.
